Tawnni Cable knew her five foot, nine inch frame was destined to grace the cover of magazines, and she had an all-natural advantage over her competition. “I was as skinny as the rest of them, but I had boobs,” says the voluptuous brunette. Starting her modeling career at a very prestigious agency in New York City, Tawnni learned how life in the fast lane works when you’re a model in a fashion capital. “In New York, fashion models change clothes in the street—somebody holds up a coat and you change,” says brown-eyed Tawnni. This quick-and-dirty method changed the way Miss Cable felt about nudity in the public eye. She’d always been comfortable with her body and with being naked, but now Tawnni was proud to show others. “Being nude is not that different from wearing a bikini or being a fashion model. Appearing nude in Playboy isn’t weird. Being uncomfortable nude is weird,” explains Miss Cable. After a short stint as an actress on Miami Vice and several modeling jobs, free-spirited Tawnni didn’t know what her next career move would be, but true to form, she’d go wherever the wind took her. Growing up in the rainy town of Salem, Oregon, Miss Cable felt she needed to move somewhere hot and sunny with Mai Tais available round the clock—the minute her feet touched the sand of Waikiki Beach, she knew she was home. Imagine her delight when Playboy came calling, offering to meet her on the island for a Centerfold shoot. “People around here call me ‘the girl in black.’ I wear black underwear, too—silky, sexy G strings and bustiers,” says Miss June 1989. “When I get dressed up to go out at night, I like to feel good underneath. Silk and lace, I never plan anything in advance, but it’s good to be prepared.” Black is her go-to color when she’s out on the town, but when it’s time for her to unroll her towel and bronze her soft skin on the white sand of Waikiki Beach, she loves to be in her orange or green neon Brazilian-cut bikini. “I don't mind being looked at,” smiles Tawnni. With attractions like white sandy beaches and perfect surfing waves, Hawaii can now add ‘Home to a Playboy Playmate’ to its list of tourist attractions.
